Iran names three authors for 1st BRICS Literary Award

IBNA- Iran has nominated three writers to represent the country at the inaugural BRICS Literary Award, a new international prize founded last year by BRICS member states to promote cultural ties and literary diversity.

The nominees are novelist Reza Amirkhani, author Majid Gheisari, and writer-poet Mansour Alimoradi, according to SNN. Their works have been added to the event’s long list.

Launched in November 2024, the BRICS Literary Award seeks to highlight literature that reflects the heritage, traditions, and lived experiences of BRICS nations. Each country may nominate up to three authors. Winners will receive a diploma, a medal, and a cash award of one million Russian rubles.

Iran’s entries were coordinated by the Iran Book and Literature House in cooperation with the country’s Cultural Counsellor’s Office in Russia. The effort is part of wider initiatives to support translation and global promotion of Iranian literature.

Amirkhani, 52, is a bestselling novelist best known for His Ego, reprinted 38 times and translated into Arabic, Russian, and Turkish. His novel Salvation won the Jalal Al-e Ahmad Literary Award in 2018. Gheisari, 58, received Russia’s Eurasia Award for his novel Three Priests the same year and has served as a judge at several Iranian literary festivals.

Alimoradi, a writer, poet, and researcher of Kerman Province’s cultural heritage, has published fiction, poetry, and research works, earning numerous domestic honors over the past 15 years.

Masoud Ahmadvand, head of the Cultural Center at Iran’s embassy in Moscow, serves on the award’s board of directors, which oversees the event’s strategic management and jury selection.

Organizers describe the BRICS Literary Award as a vehicle for cultural diplomacy, aiming to strengthen mutual understanding among member states by showcasing their traditions through literature.

A shortlist of finalists will be announced in October, with the winner revealed in November at a ceremony in Moscow.
