Poignant Palestinian novel 'Code Name: Butterfly' released

IBNA- A novel by Palestinian writer and poet Ahlam Bsharat’s 'Code Name: Butterfly' has recently been published by Michka Publications in Tehran.

Translated into Persian by Azim Tahmasebi, “Code Name: Butterfly” is a poignant and thought-provoking novel that delves into the complexities of life under occupation.

The story revolves around the protagonist, Butterfly, a young Palestinian girl who struggles to navigate the treacherous landscape of her community. As she grapples with her own identity, she begins to question everything around her, including her father's alleged collaboration with the occupiers and her own unrequited love for Nizar.

Butterfly's journey is marked by intense sibling rivalries, girlfriends' power plays, and friendships that are put to the test by the unpredictable storms of life. Throughout the book, she must confront the harsh realities of occupation, including the dangers of speaking out against the oppressive regime and the ever-present threat of violence.

As Butterfly searches for answers and a sense of purpose, she finds solace in her own resilience and creativity. Through her journal entries, she pours out her emotions and thoughts, using her imagination to transform herself into a butterfly - a symbol of hope and transformation.

The book is a powerful and moving coming-of-age story that explores themes of identity, resistance, and the human spirit, Tehran Times reported.

Ahlam Bsharat is a renowned Palestinian writer and poet, born in 1975 in the village of Tamoun in the Jordan Valley. With a passion for creative writing, she has honed her skills as a trainer and has authored numerous works for young readers, including short stories, picture books, novels, and memoirs.

As one of the most prominent figures in Palestinian young people's literature, Bsharat has written four novels for young adults, dozens of children's stories, and two short story collections.

Her breakthrough novel, 'Code Name: Butterfly', has garnered widespread recognition and acclaim. Published in 2012, it was included in the list of the 100 most important books for young people worldwide and has been reprinted in both Arabic and English.
