Iranian writer, mythologist and satirist Mohammad-Ali Oloumi passes away

IBNA- Mohammad-Ali Oloumi, an Iranian writer, mythologist, literary researcher and satirist, who researched the literary Iranian masterpiece 'Shahnameh' (Persian Book of Kings), passed away. He was 63.

Oloumi died at his house in Bam in the southeastern Iranian province of Kerman due to illness on Sunday evening.

Born in Bam, he was one of the prominent Iranian figures in literary research.

After graduating from the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Tehran, Oloumi started journalism at Iran’s Persian-language newspaper Ettela’at in the 1980s and began his work in culture and literature more seriously in the 1990s. He is said to have taught himself the principles of writing.

For years, he was the roommate of Iraj Bastami– a prominent Iranian vocalist of traditional music who was killed in the 2003 Bam earthquake- in the capital city of Tehran.

Oloumi was awarded the prizes for the best book or best satirical book several times. 'Paribad' and 'Azarestan' are among his most notable books.
