Shiraz marks National Hafez Week with cultural celebrations across Iran

IBNA- Iran has launched a nationwide series of cultural events celebrating the 14th-century Persian poet Hafez, whose lyrical works remain a cornerstone of Iranian literature and identity.

The week-long program, running from October 10 to 17 and centered on Shiraz — the poet’s birthplace — coincides with National Hafez Day on October 12.

The National Library and Archives of Fars (NLAF) opened a special exhibition titled “Hafez Through Time” on October 11 at its southern branch in Shiraz. The show presents archival documents and artifacts tracing Hafez’s enduring influence from the Qajar period to the present day.

Marjan Yazdanpanahi, director of the NLAF’s southern center, said the display features two sections: one documenting the restoration of Hafez’s mausoleum and related ceremonies, and another showcasing rare handwritten manuscripts of his Divan from the National Library and the Malek Museum collections.

The exhibition, open through October 16, forms part of a broader cultural program that includes theatrical performances, puppet operas, and academic workshops dedicated to the poet’s legacy.

Morteza Ranjbar, head of the Fars Department of Culture and Islamic Guidance, said the initiative seeks to highlight Hafez as “not only a symbol of Shiraz, but a cultural figure who belongs to all of Iran.”
